An Australian man working for the United Nations has been ordered to leave Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lankan government has accused UNICEF spokesman James Elder of making false statements and spreading anti-government propaganda.
The Australian has been an outspoken on the plight of civilians displaced during Sri Lanka’s civil war.
Mr Elder has been ordered to leave Sri Lanka by September 21.
But UNICEF’s regional spokeswoman Sarah Crowe says Mr Elder has the 100 per cent support from the United Nations.
“We absolutely stand by everything that has been said throughout this year, throughout the conflict,” she said.
UN and Sri Lankan government officials are scheduled to meet in the capital Colombo later today.
