UK’s rejection of Kohona’s visa is discussed in SL
f the Western countries are rejecting visa applications of high profile Sri Lankans, it is the duty of the Parliament to rise against this and protect the rights of the citizens , said Speaker, Lokubandara in Parliament yesterday . (11)
It is a matter for regret if the visas have been refused because they are Sinhalese, Buddhist or a Sri Lankan , he added.
The speaker stated this when UNP M.P. Ravi Karnananayake questioned Foreign Minister Bogollagama on the basis of news reports that Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona’s visa was refused by the UK High Commission. The Foreign Minister however denied any such visa refusal .
Even Premier Ratnasiri Wickremenayake has faced harassment while he was abroad , and he has been subjected to a finger print identification. If they are subjected to embarrassments , the Parliament can rise against such actions , the speaker pointed out.
